Bidvest Tank Terminals has an opportunity for a Project Engineer. This opportunity exists within the Technical Department, based in Head Office reporting to the Project Manager. The candidate has to meet the following minimum criteria.

Main purpose of the Job
  • The incumbent in this position will provide project management services to guarantee the effective and efficient delivery of all projects at sites within the Durban, Richards Bay and Isando region

The successful candidate will engage in the following activities:
  • Implement an effective and efficient project management strategy for Durban, Richards bay and Isando
  • Provide input into the business unit strategic Capex investment plan
  • Ensure that Capex justifications / business cases are prepared for all projects
  • Ensure that a project plan is developed and tracked for each project
  • Conduct feasibility studies as and when required
  • Identify risk exposure and risk mitigation measures
  • Ensure compliance to OHS Act and other industry applicable legislation
  • Ensure compliance to SHEQ systems (ISO 45001, ISO 14001 & ISO 9001)
  • Prepare and manage Capex budget
  • Plan, organize and execute all projects within agreed time, cost and scope budgets
  • Ensure project post mortems are conducted after each project
  • Ensure that all project management procedures and work instructions are in place
  • Ensure that project systems map and tank refurbishments map is followed at all times

  • Ability to work under pressure
  • Good understanding of the OHS Act and other industry applicable legislation


Minimum requirements

  • Engineering Diploma or Degree in Electrical/Mechanical engineering
  • A project management qualification would be advantageous
  • Minimum 5 years project management experience – preferably in the chemical/petro-chemical industry
  • Good understanding of SHEQ systems (ISO 45001, ISO 14001 & ISO 9001)
  • Good understanding of API 653/650 standards
  • Sound understanding on hazardous locations
